How much does Sharelyft cost?

Sharelyft charges a flat KES 50 connection fee — once to the driver and once to the passenger for each accepted connection. There is no commission on the fare and no subscription.

Who decides the fare for the trip?

The driver suggests a fare when posting the ride and you confirm it in chat. Sharelyft never handles the fare; you settle it directly with the driver, usually by M-Pesa or cash.

When do I get the driver's phone number?

Contact details unlock after the driver accepts your request and both of you have paid the KES 50 connection fee. Until then you can only see the driver's first name, photo and verified badge.

How do I pay?

Payments go through Paystack, so you can pay by M-Pesa or by card. You are returned to Sharelyft as soon as the payment is confirmed.

Question 5

Is the connection fee refundable?

Accepted Answer

It is refundable only if the connection was not delivered — for example a duplicate charge or a technical failure. It is not refunded if a ride is later cancelled or you change your mind. Email support within 14 days if you think you were charged in error.

What happens if the driver or passenger does not show up?

Message them first through the app. If someone repeatedly no-shows, report them to support with the ride details — we review reports and can remove accounts.

Question 7

How long does driver verification take?

Once all four documents (licence, insurance, logbook and a photo) are uploaded, a reviewer checks them manually. If something is unclear you will see the reason on your profile and can re-upload.

Do I need to be verified to post a ride?

No, you can post a ride straight away. But verified drivers appear with a badge and show up when passengers filter for verified drivers only, so they fill seats faster.

Which routes does Sharelyft cover?

Accepted Answer

Anywhere in Kenya. The busiest corridors are Nairobi–Nakuru, Nairobi–Mombasa, Nairobi–Kisumu and Nairobi–Eldoret, but you can post any route between counties or within your town.

Question 10

Can I cancel a ride I posted?

Yes. Cancel it from your dashboard with a reason and everyone who requested a seat is notified by SMS and email.

Question 11

Is Sharelyft a taxi service?

Accepted Answer

No. Sharelyft is a noticeboard for private drivers with empty seats. We do not own vehicles or employ drivers.

Question 12

I had an account on the old Sharelyft. Can I still sign in?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Use the 'Forgot password' link with the email address you used before and set a new password — your rides and history are still there.
