Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of Sharelyft. By creating an account you agree to them.
Last updated 19 August 2026
1. What Sharelyft is
Sharelyft is an online noticeboard that connects private drivers who have empty seats with passengers travelling the same way. Sharelyft is not a taxi, matatu, courier or transport operator. We do not own or operate vehicles, we do not employ drivers, and we are not a party to the travel arrangement you agree with another user.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use Sharelyft and the details you give us must be true and current.
Drivers must hold a valid Kenyan driving licence, valid motor vehicle insurance covering the journey, and a roadworthy vehicle they are legally entitled to drive.
3. The connection fee
- Sharelyft charges a flat KES 50 connection fee to the driver and a flat KES 50 connection fee to the passenger for each accepted connection.
- The fee unlocks contact details and chat for that ride. It is not a fare, a deposit, or a booking guarantee.
- Payments are processed by Paystack. Sharelyft does not store your card or M-Pesa credentials.
- The fare for the journey is agreed directly between the driver and the passenger and is settled between them. Sharelyft takes no share of it and does not handle it.
4. Refunds
The connection fee is refundable only where the connection was not delivered — for example a duplicate charge, or a technical failure that prevented contact details from unlocking. It is not refundable because a ride was later cancelled by either party, because you changed your mind, or because you and the driver could not agree a fare. Refund requests should be sent to support@sharelyft.com within 14 days of the charge.
5. Your responsibilities
- Give accurate ride, route and timing information and keep your listings up to date.
- Do not use Sharelyft to run a commercial passenger transport service, to advertise, or to send unsolicited messages.
- Do not post false, offensive, discriminatory or misleading content, or impersonate anyone.
- Do not attempt to move a connection off-platform in order to avoid the connection fee.
- Comply with Kenyan traffic law, insurance requirements and any applicable licensing rules.
6. Verification
The verified badge means a member of our team has reviewed the documents a driver uploaded. It is a basic document check, not a background check, a vehicle inspection, or a guarantee of any driver's conduct or competence. Use your own judgement before travelling.
7. Liability
Because Sharelyft only introduces users to each other, we are not responsible for the journey itself — including delays, cancellations, no-shows, the condition of a vehicle, the conduct of a driver or passenger, loss or damage to property, injury, or any dispute over a fare. To the maximum extent permitted by Kenyan law, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the connection fees you paid us in the three months before the claim arose.
8. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or remove listings and accounts that breach these terms, that are reported for unsafe or fraudulent behaviour, or where we are required to do so by law. You can close your account at any time from your settings.
9. Changes
We may update these terms as the service changes. Material changes will be notified in the app or by email, and the updated date at the top of this page will change.
10. Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya and disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the Kenyan courts. Questions about these terms: support@sharelyft.com.
